Marrakech in July is not a beach holiday that happens to be inland. It is its own thing, and the heat runs the timetable.
The day divides itself: mornings out, afternoons horizontal beside water, evenings on a roof. Dress for those three, and you have packed correctly.
The riad pool afternoon
Between roughly one and five, the sensible response to Marrakech is a plunge pool and shade.
This is where most of your swimwear time is spent — not on a beach, but in a courtyard. It changes what works. There is less wind, less salt, and considerably more sitting on hot tile. A one-piece is the more comfortable choice here than a bikini, simply because you are lying on stone rather than sand. Add a silk skirt for the walk to breakfast and back.

Dressing for the souks
Mornings are for the medina, and the medina asks for a bit more coverage — again, less about rules than about comfort under attention.
Loose beats tight, and covered beats bare, largely because both are cooler. A kaftan over swimwear works for a morning that ends at the pool. Long sleeves in light fabric genuinely keep you cooler than bare arms in direct sun. Closed or secure shoes matter more than they sound.
Rooftop evenings
The temperature drops fast after sunset and the city moves upward — every second building has a terrace.
This is the moment for the silk beach skirt worn as an actual skirt, or a kaftan with jewellery. Something with a sleeve is worth having; rooftops get cool in a way that surprises people who spent the afternoon at 40 degrees.
Why plum works in desert light
Marrakech's light is flat, bright and slightly dusty — the famous pink-ochre of the buildings bounces into everything.
Against that, cool pale tones can look washed and grey. Warmer, deeper colours hold up. Plum, terracotta and deep rose sit with the walls rather than fighting them, which is why the capsule is built in that range.
